We’re seeking someone to join our team as a Software Developer and Team Lead as part of the Sustainable Finance and Resilience Technology Department, within Non-Financial Risk Technology which sits in the division of Cyber, Risk, Resilience & Data. The position will be a core part of the global team focusing on initiatives supporting our Firmwide Global Sustainability Office (GSO) which is an exciting program leveraging cutting edge technologies to build capabilities that help the firm meet its net zero carbon emissions targets, support advanced analysis of the impact of climate change on the firm’s clients’ portfolios and its own investments and provide data to our climate scientists and research teams.The candidate will provide technical leadership and local team management of approximately 7 developers who will primarily be working on our ESG data workstream as well as our geospatial and climate scenario analysis initiatives. The candidate will be expected to perform hands-on development daily in an OO language like Python or Java and to work with data across all phases of the software development lifecycle.
The candidate will collaborate closely with architects and developers within the squads and with stakeholders, users, product owners and other squads involved in product delivery across the broader technology division and time zones to design, develop, test and deploy new and enhanced capabilities. The candidate will also be expected to make material contributions to the objectives of the broader department and super department.The candidate should be a strong technical Python developer, with expertise in the full SDLC process at a major enterprise. Candidates will require strong design and implementation fundamentals. Prior experience in developing ESG solutions are valued but the ability and willingness to quickly master new technical and business concepts are essential. Read on.What you’ll do in the role:Provide technical leadership and manage a team of 7 developers working on ESG data, geospatial analysis, and climate scenario initiativesPerform daily hands-on development in PythonCollaborate with stakeholders across time zones to design, develop, and deploy new capabilitiesDefine technical architecture and roadmaps for mission-critical systemsDrive the adoption of agile methodologies and build an effective engineering cultureMentor team members, foster professional growth, and manage performanceWhat you’ll bring to the role:10+ years of hands-on application development experience with strong Python skills (Java experience acceptable with willingness to cross-train)Experience developing web services using Python frameworks with REST/JSONStrong understanding of database concepts, particularly PostgreSQLFamiliarity with JavaScript frameworks (Angular or React) for front-end developmentDevOps experience and CI/CD pipelinesExperience with data analytics and visualization tools like TableauProven leadership skills managing technical teams, including experience setting priorities, conducting performance reviews, and mentoring developers at various career stagesExcellent communication skills with the ability to interact with stakeholders at all levelsPreferred skills & experience:Experience with ESG or sustainability initiatives in financial servicesBackground in geospatial data processing or climate analysisWhat you can expect from Morgan Stanley:We are committed to maintaining the first-class service and high standard of excellence that have defined Morgan Stanley for over 89 years.
