As a Software Engineer, you will focus on developing critical features for North America and International markets in collaboration with your team, Product Manager, and multiple customers worldwide. These customers include small and large restaurants with a single owner or various locations.The team works closely with other teams, driving key international business objectives while improving the productivity of the entire Toast engineering organization. Key areas of focus include distributed systems, infrastructure, tooling, and workflows, all of which are essential for the success of Toast’s products in international markets.About this roll* (Responsibilities)

• Join a team that contributes to and learns from industry best practices in internationalization.
• Partner closely with Toast’s Localization team to enable end-to-end multilingual user experiences in Toast products and services.
• Develop and maintain tools to be used by engineering teams across the organisation for “global ready” product development.
• Evolve Toast’s existing products suite to meet global market needs
• Be part of a team working collaboratively with UX, Product, QA and other engineers to build product suites to meet global market needs
• Create products and features that help restaurants provide best-in-class international and multilingual experiences

Do you have the right ingredients*? (Qualities & Essential Skills)

• Strong experience with Kotlin, Java or another object-oriented language, with a deep understanding of testing, quality & best practices.
• The ability to take complex business problems, and create easy-to-use solutions at scale.
• Enjoys building well-engineered, usable and accessible systems
• Passionate about globalization, multilingual user experience, efficiency, availability, and system quality
• Passionate about making awesome developer experiences, so our engineers across Toast can deliver globally ready products with ease.

Special Sauce* (Nice to Haves)

• Experience in a scripting language, CICD infrastructure technology stack including Jira, Git, Jenkins.
• Has basic React knowledge and is ready to work on UI-related tasks if needed.
• Has Android development experience and is ready to work on Android tasks if needed.

• A core of Java & Kotlin based backend services.
• React SPAs leveraging Tailwind, GraphQL and Storybook.
• Android app built in Java & Kotlin running in the restaurant.
• PostgreSQL and DynamoDB as core persistence.
• Pulsar, Camel and RabbitMQ for message-based integrations.
