We invite you to join us on this exciting journey toward a better future.The RoleThis is a senior technical leadership role, and we are looking for individuals who have demonstrated success in designing and maintaining large-scale, complex systems with a focus on the application layer. Our engineers have a passion for quality, efficiency, and reliability to help us accelerate and innovate in this exciting and critical space. Our team believes in extreme ownership where we manage the scale, availability, and operations for our applications. As a staff engineer, you’ll be creating patterns for reliability, implementing reliability patterns into our applications, and creating observability into our applications to support the vehicle data operations for millions of vehicles on a global scale. You will work with the embedded vehicle teams, data engineers, infrastructure engineers, developer experience, and application teams to bring these services and client experiences to life. As a key member of our SRE team, you’ll have the opportunity to shape the future of how we build reliable and efficient software systems for the next generation of transportation.What you’ll do in this role:Design and implement reliability patterns for client applications, communication protocols, and back-office servicesOperate and influence data collection, processing, and delivery systems that are scalable, resilient, and capable of operating on millions of vehicles at a global scaleLeverage monitoring and observability tools (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog) to ensure system health and reliabilityLead automation efforts to reduce toil and keep our systems running efficientlyLead incident response efforts, ensure root cause analysis, and drive continuous improvement after incidentsDrive postmortem processes, focusing on identifying and remediating systemic issues to prevent recurrenceParticipate in mentorship programs to help grow the team from your experiencesThis role will require on-call availability to support a 24/7 follow-the-sun operationQualifications:8+ years of experience engineering reliabilityExperience building and operating enterprise cloud applicationsExperience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, and container orchestration technologies like KubernetesFamiliarity with security practices such as DevSecOps, and ensuring secure and compliant infrastructure as part of reliability engineeringAbility to lead technical decision-making, balancing reliability, performance, and costAbility to make challenging decisions under pressureAbility to learn complex systems in order to identify and mitigate incidentsAbility to work well cross-functionally and navigate through ambiguityStrong written and verbal communication skills to both technical and non-technical audiencesBS/MS/PhD in Computer Science/Engineering preferredAbout GMOur vision is a world with Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions and Zero Congestion and we embrace the responsibility to lead the change that will make our world better, safer and more equitable for all.Why Join UsWe aspire to be the most inclusive company in the world.
