Staff Scientist (AC-TAP) in Bioniformatics at Globe Institute, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of CopenhagenWe are looking for a highly motivated and independent staff scientist to support our efforts in ancient environmental DNA research and microbial ecogenomics, with a focus on bioinformatics and data analysis. The position is a fixed-term position for a period of 2,5 years and is available as of September 1st, 2025.Our researchThe Ancient Environmental Genomics Initiative for Sustainability (AEGIS) is a groundbreaking interdisciplinary center led by Professor Eske Willerslev. We bring together researchers across the natural sciences, humanities, and agricultural sciences to study and develop sustainable and biodiverse solutions for agriculture in response to climate change. AEGIS generates and analyses large-scale ancient and modern environmental DNA (eDNA) datasets from over 200 global sites. These data are integrated with contextual ecological, geological, and archaeological information to gain a deeper understanding of long-term biodiversity and ecosystem dynamics.Our work spans genomics, metagenomics, bioinformatics, evolutionary biology, computational ecology, plant engineering, and agricultural sciences. The advertised position is within the Microbial EcoGenomics Group at the Center for Ancient Environmental Genomics, which focuses on reconstructing past microbial communities and developing computational tools for ecological and evolutionary insights.We value diversity and inclusivity in our research community. In this role, you will be responsible for implementing, maintaining, and improving bioinformatic workflows for analysing ancient environmental DNA (aeDNA), as well as supporting computational and statistical analyses related to microbial community structure and function. You will help develop reproducible methods within high-performance computing environments, assist in supervising junior researchers, and contribute to the dissemination of bioinformatic expertise across the team. Additionally, you may provide general support to ongoing research activities.ProfileWe are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic staff scientist with the following competencies and experience:Essential experience and skills

• Proven experience in bioinformatics, including pipeline development and analysis of large-scale molecular datasets.
• Proficiency in multiple programming languages, including Python, R, and/or C/C++.
• Experience with high-performance computing (HPC) environments and workflow management tools such as Snakemake or Nextflow.
• Familiarity with DNA sequencing technologies and analysis of Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) data.
• Strong analytical skills and interest in interdisciplinary, computational research.
• Excellent communication skills and fluency in English, spoken and written.

Desirable experience and skills

• A PhD in bioinformatics, ecology, evolutionary biology, computational biology, or a related field.

• Background in microbial community ecology, ecological modeling, or statistical learning.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, international research environment.
• Service-minded and proactive approach to collaborative problem solving.

The monthly salary will be based on the number of years of work experience (seniority) with the possibility to negotiate a salary supplement based on prior experiences and qualifications.
