Details:Mission and objectives:The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is the Secretariat Department responsible for strengthening international human rights mechanisms; enhancing equality and countering discrimination; combating impunity and strengthening accountability and the rule of law; integrating human rights in development and in the economic sphere; widening the democratic space; and early warning and protection of human rights in situations of conflict, violence and insecurity.Context:The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is the Secretariat Department responsible for strengthening international human rights mechanisms; enhancing equality and countering discrimination; combating impunity and strengthening accountability and the rule of law; integrating human rights in development and in the economic sphere; widening the democratic space; and early warning and protection of human rights in situations of conflict, violence and insecurity. This assignment will support OHCHR in its efforts towards the implementation of the UN Youth Strategy.Task type:Project Development and ManagementTask description:Under the overall supervision of the Coordinator of the Fellowship Programme for People of African Descent, support the Youth Summer Fellowship pilot by contributing to the substantive work of ARDS notably pertaining to people of African descent which may include:
– Review and assess the applications received for the 2025 Fellowship Programme for People of African Descent and assist with the interviews of applicants.
– Assist with the logistical and substantive organization of OHCHR events to launch the Second International Decade for People of African Descent (2025- 2034)
– Assist with the substantive preparation of awareness-raising activities for the commemoration of the International Day of Women and Girls of African Descent (25th July) and the International Day for People of African Descent (31st August)
– Review written submissions, prepare summaries thereon and as needed provide support for translation of relevant documents in view of the preparation of the report of the Secretary-General on the Programme of activities for the implementation of the International Decade for People of African Descent.
– Assist the work of the UN anti-racism expert mechanisms including by conducting research and analysis.Requirements:– Experience in a field related to the rights of people of African descent is considered an asset.
– Academic background in a field related to law, international relations or a discipline related to human rights is considered an asset.
– Work experience in a field related to law and/or human rights is considered to be an asset.Work Hours: 16-20
