Carbo Culture is a carbon removal technology developer on a mission to help mitigate climate change by permanently removing CO₂. We’re headquartered in Helsinki with a subsidiary and ops in Norway, the UK and the US. This position is planned to extend the Project Engineering Management team sitting in Sandvika, Norway. Our team is largely remote and working hybrid, but we also have an office in central Helsinki where the Discipline Engineering team meets on a regular basis in addition to the project related meetings, design reviews and yearly engineering and company-wide summits.. From the Sandvika office, we work closely together online across time zones both internally and externally towards our strategic partners for FEED and EPC. Travelling will be required.We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Systems Engineer to join our Project Engineering team in Sandvika, Norway. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on experience in Engineering Manager and systems engineering for industrial large-scale projects. This role will be instrumental by supporting the development and deployment of our next-generation biochar plants. You will be part of our Owner’s Engineering team in Sandvika during the pre-engineering and EPC-phases of our new plants, contributing to the design, documentation, and integration efforts across projects in Europe.This is a unique opportunity to join a pioneering team working on the world’s first large-scale biochar production plants, where you’ll be involved from early-stage engineering all the way through to commissioning and operations.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Represent the Engineering Management discipline in the Owner’s team during EPC of projects
- Support and manage internal business development project feasibility studies
- Support the development and management of system-level requirements, documentation, including design basis and requirement traceability during Feasibility studies, FEED and EPC phasesAs part of the core Owner’s team, review and coordinate documentation from main contractors to ensure alignment with internally developed project specifications.
- Assist in the development and review of PFDs, P&IDs, functional specifications, and control strategies.
- Collaborate with the Owner’s team discipline leads and cross-functional teams to ensure system integration compliance
- Participate in technical reviews such as HAZOPs, design reviews, and risk assessments.
- Support testing, operational readiness, and commissioning activities.
- Maintain clear communication between internal teams, vendors, and contractors to ensure alignment on requirements and deliverables.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts for documentation, systems engineering processes, and design practices.
- Report to the Project Engineering Manager / Head of Plant Engineering.
IDEAL CANDIDATE:
- 4+ years of relevant experience in systems engineering, plant engineering, or industrial operations.
- Experience from landbased process plant studies, FEED and EPC
- Exposure to EPC project environments (as contractor or owner) is a plus.
- Experience with the commercial aspects of plant development
- Experience working with system-level documentation and structured requirements management.
- Experience in internal and external interface management and systemic approach of such throughout the stages of project development.
- Practical and holistic experience in the civil, piping and construction disciplines
- Experience from design processes such for Technical Safety including HAZID, HAZOP, Fire Strategies, SIL, LOPA and similar.
Strong collaborative mindset and ability to work with external contractors and internal specialists. * Ability to structure and organize work clearly in a multidisciplinary, fast-paced project environment.
- Fluent in English; excellent communication skills.
- Degree in Engineering or a relevant technical discipline.
Nice to have:
- Educational background or certification in Systems Engineering.
- Experience in process industries, waste management, oil & gas, or onshore plant development.
- Familiarity with boiler plants, gas engines or similar systems.
- Background in working with Nordic partners or within remote-first teams.
