Offer DescriptionResearch:

• You will dedicate at least 50% of your time to (doctoral) research.
• As a researcher, you are internationally oriented: you participate in international conferences and publish in international journals and trade publications. This enables you to stay up to date with the latest developments in your field.
• You will support the research within the ADVISE group, where robust digital systems and algorithms in the field of artificial intelligence are developed (among other topics). Experience with Verilog, C++, and Python is a plus.
• Your research will be supervised and guided by the academic supervisor of your PhD project.

Besides your research, you will spend up to 50% of your time on teaching tasks:

• You will conduct lab sessions, support lectures, exercises, and supervise project work in the domain of (digital) electronics and software development for the Bachelor’s and Master’s programs in Industrial Engineering at Campus Geel.
• You will provide feedback to students and participate in student assessments.
• You will supervise students during their Bachelor’s and Master’s theses.
• You will keep your technical and scientific expertise and teaching materials up to date, in consultation with colleagues within the domain (from both Campus Geel, Diepenbeek, and other campuses within the Faculty of Engineering Technology).
• You will support other researchers in their teaching tasks.
• You actively follow educational innovations at both national and international levels and integrate them into the educational activities you are involved in.
• You will participate in PR and student recruitment activities (e.g., workshops for secondary school students, science week, open days, study information fairs, school outreach, etc.).
• You will support the management, development, and maintenance of lab infrastructure and its use in student projects, in close collaboration with colleagues from both Campus Geel and Diepenbeek.
• Your teaching will primarily take place at Campus Geel, but depending on program needs, up to 50% of your teaching duties may shift to Campus Diepenbeek in the future.
• Your educational duties fall under the Education & Research units in Computer Science (CW) and Electrical Engineering (ESAT) at the Geel and Diepenbeek campuses.

• You hold a degree in Industrial Engineering in Electronics-ICT or equivalent. A teaching qualification is an asset.
• You have a broad foundation in electronics and software development, with specific in-depth knowledge of digital systems, (object-oriented) programming, data engineering, internet technologies, and software engineering.
• You are eager to learn and have a research-oriented mindset, always upholding integrity in your role as a researcher.
• You have a strong interest in guiding students and supporting labs and project work.
• You can work independently and proactively, are organized, creative, accurate, and resistant to stress.
• You are an enthusiastic, entrepreneurial team player with inventive ideas, always looking for improvements, experimenting with new concepts, and solving problems in a creative and clear way.
• You have strong communication skills and are fluent in both Dutch and English (spoken and written), in accordance with the language requirements for higher education in Flanders.

We offer a full-time position as an assistant for a period of 2 years, starting on 01/09/2025. Upon positive evaluation, the position can be extended. Renumeration is according to salary scale 43.
