Are you 50+ and want to make a positive difference in other people’s lives? We miss you who can offer life experience, practical experience and a calm nervous system, and who would like to be part of a community where we help other people.The Social Emergency Room is:An open anonymous advice service that employs 5 paid and approx. 40 volunteer employees. We are open daily from 6 pm – 7 am for all citizens who need advice and guidance. You can come straight in from the street or contact the house by phone. We service approx. 4000 inquiries annually. As a volunteer, you have two to three shifts per month (evening and night shifts).People come with many different mental and social issues. It can be victim counseling, substance abuse problems, relationship problems, family problems, incest or physical and mental illnesses. Many come because of loneliness which is often related to one or more of the other issues, and some are plagued by suicidal thoughts and/or attempts. Some of the inquiries can be so urgent that we have to be helpful with hospitalization. We talk, listen and help with the investigation of problems. Advise on social legislation and establish contact with the public authorities, act as an assistant to the municipality, the doctor, psychiatry, police and other authorities. We do not treat, but run programs with highly vulnerable and socially threatened citizens, and we visit them again if possible. We provide care and meet people where they are.In addition to the above, the Social Accident Clinic provides victim counseling in North Jutland in collaboration with the North Jutland Police. The collaboration consists of all citizens who have been exposed to either an accident or criminal crime being offered by the police to receive victim counseling/mentoring, either by telephone or in person at the Social Accident Clinic. The referral is made via a referral form that is sent from the police to the Social Accident Clinic, which then contacts the victims. In order to be able to carry out the role of victim counselor/mentor, one must go through a training course, where counselors learn to use grief and crisis psychology as well as hard data about reporting, legal counsel, the Criminal Code and the Public Information Act.
