The position is full-time and will start in 1.8.2025 or as agreed.Your roleAs a new Workshop Master, you will work in the Photo & Print team, with your primary work environment being the ARTS infra printmaking workshop. As a Workshop Master, your main tasks will include:Ensuring and developing workshop operations as a learning and research environment

  • Organising, servicing and maintenance of machinery, tools, and equipment
  • Recycling and waste management
  • Storage management (materials and student work)
  • Purchasing of materials and tools
  • Annual planning and budgeting of the operations
  • Planning of new investments and carrying out procurement
  • Active foresight and understanding the ongoing changes and developments in the field

Guiding and supporting users

  • Providing users of the workshop with guidance and support related to the use of the tools and materials
  • Guiding and supporting students in learning printmaking techniques and practices
  • Planning and delivery of regular group inductions for users of the workshop
  • Guiding trainees and workshop assistants
  • Collaboration with teachers and study coordinators in scheduling and course design
  • Ensuring safe and healthy working conditions for students and other workshop users
  • Guiding users of the workshop into safe working practices
  • Active advisory on the use of protective gear
  • Ensuring the safety of the workshop

Your network and teamThe Photo & Print team is responsible for the printlab, photostudios, darkrooms, printmaking, drawing and painting workshops at . Our team comprises diverse professionals who support creative learning and research. We work closely with students and staff to create an inspiring and safe learning environment. Our workshops offer a wide range of tools and resources that facilitate the exploration and development of different materials and techniques.Located in Otaniemi, Espoo, the campus provides excellent facilities and opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration. Check out:Our expectations for youThe core of our technical services is support for learning and enabling learning by doing. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience and professional skills in printmaking working methods, as well as experience equipment maintenance
  • Knowledge of essential working methods and equipment.
  • Skills in key techniques: woodcut, letterpress, risograph, silkscreen, intaglio printing and book binding
  • Experience in technical introduction
  • Understanding of the basics of educational planning, and organizing and implementing technical education, especially in the fields of arts and printmaking
  • Understanding of the needs of workshop and school facility users and the ability to ensure the suitability, safety, and healthiness of learning environments
  • Good interpersonal skills, as well as a service-oriented, proactive and developmental mindset
  • Positive attitude to ensure smooth cooperation with academic staff, management, student representatives, the internal team, and service staff
  • Strong IT skills and problem-solving abilities
  • Good verbal and written Finnish skills, and good verbal and written English skills
  • A relevant degree from a university of applied science or from a higher education institution or equivalent acquired competence
